SA Schools Boat Race Notice

All clubs (including supporters) competing at this years SA Schools Boat Race should be aware of the following:

 1) Please ensure that your rowers do not make any unnecessary contact with the river water.  We therefore advise no swimming, includingcoxes being thrown in!

 2) Please observe the road traffic rules. Law enforcement officers will be on the lookout and they will fine you if you violate traffic rules. There are a few changes to vehicle traffic in town.

 3) If you are bringing down a coaching launch you should get a municipal licence. Enquire at the Tourist Office which is on the river , just upriver from the Town Hall.

 4) Parents following racing by boat on Saturday MUST have a fully licensed boat, as well as skipper or face a definite fine and possible boat impounding. The Conservation Authorities will be strict this year. Supporting boats should also stay well clear of the umpires launches and NOT cross over,or ride wake from boats ahead. This is a safety concern.

 5) Centenery Park remains a safety risk and recent rains have made the access road worse. We would strictly advise that absolutely no-one enters the area alone, even in a small group. There will be a general police presencein the area, but this is not guaranteed. The police have asked us to stay clear of this area.

 6) NB!  In the days prior to Friday, school buses will have access to parking in the Ski Boat Club. Please do not park in theparkings in front ie in front of the jetties. Park towards the boat enclosure at the side, if there are parkings free there. The access boom to the club will be closed from 0930 on Friday and 0700 on Saturday. Please park on the other side of the road by the trailer parking. We have arranged that the entrance to the Club under the bridge is opened for access. This is to avoid pedestrian traffic across the already very busy R72.Please use this entrance to the club during the event on Friday and Saturday. You will be directed there by security guards anyway. Please co-operate withthe above.

 7) There are quite a few more racks available than in the past. Please use these before resorting to stowing your boats in the parking lot. They are far safer on racks.

 9) Weather looks good for Friday and Saturday. Wind SW becoming on Friday, light to moderate E on Saturday.

10) Please ensure you have representation at the coxes meeting on Thursday afternoon (approx 1630), as well as the SASRU Plenary Meeting at 1000 on Friday morning, should there be any further important announcements you need to be aware of. Finally, in addition, therewill be a meeting directly after the Plenary Meeting on the Junior National Selection Policy and all interested and affected parties are invited to attend. We should be done well before the Womens Head race preparations.

11) Those Coaches wanting their rowers to participate in the Reserves race, please email me, first come first served, I have had a couple from the Girls crews but few from the Boys.

12) Washing of boats - We have provided a hose which should beconnected to a tap in the fish gutting station (dont know what else to call itreally!) Please wash your boats on the slip way or at the very least away from the parking spaces in front of the club / jetties.

Good luck to all crews. Enjoy the weekend! Sometimes it's hard forus coaches, but just try enjoy it!

 Regards
